Why is Setel introducing these limitations?

As a regulated e-wallet service, Setel aligns its security practices with Bank Negara Malaysia's (BNM) Risk Management in Technology (RMiT) policy to help safeguard users and manage technology and cybersecurity risks.

Older Android operating system versions may no longer receive regular security updates from Google, which can expose devices to higher security risks. Android devices running Android 13 or below may be subject to certain limitations.

We encourage users to update their devices to Android 14 or above if supported by their device manufacturer.

Can I still use Setel if my device is running Android 13 or below?

Yes. You may continue using the Setel app.

However, devices running Android 13 or below may be subject to certain limitations, including:

  • Reduced wallet and transaction limits.
  • Restricted access to selected features or services.
  • Additional security measures to help protect your account.

For the best experience, we recommend updating your device to Android 14 or above, if supported by your device manufacturer.

What happens if my device is running Android 8.1 or below?

Devices running Android 8.1 and below will no longer receive future Setel app updates.

You may continue using the Setel app where supported, but you may not receive future app features, improvements, or updates.

We recommend updating your device to a newer Android version if an update is available from your device manufacturer.

How do I check which Android version my device is using?

You can check your Android version from your device's Settings.

Depending on your device, go to Settings → About phone → Android version.

The steps may vary depending on your device manufacturer.

How do I update my Android OS?

The steps may vary depending on your device.

Generally:

  1. Open Settings on your Android device.
  2. Look for Software Update, System Update, or System → Software Update.
  3. Tap Check for updates.
  4. If an update is available, follow the instructions on your device to install it.

We recommend connecting to Wi-Fi and making sure your device has enough battery before updating.

Why have my wallet and transaction limits been reduced to RM200 even though I've completed e-KYC?

To help protect users and align with Bank Negara Malaysia's (BNM) Risk Management in Technology (RMiT) policy, Setel applies certain security limitations to devices running Android 13 or below.

If your device is running Android 13 or below, your wallet balance limit, daily transaction limit, and single transaction limit may be reduced to RM200, even if you've successfully completed e-KYC verification.

To restore your limits, please:

  1. Update your device to Android 14 or above.
  2. Update the Setel app to the latest version.
  3. Log in to the Setel app again.

I'm using Android 14 or above, but my wallet and transaction limits are still RM200. What should I do?

Please ensure that:

  • Your device is running Android 14 or above.
  • You're using the latest version of the Setel app.

After updating:

  1. Close the Setel app.
  2. Open the Setel app and log in again.

If your wallet balance limit, daily transaction limit, and single transaction limit remain at RM200, please contact Setel Customer Support for further assistance.

What if my device cannot be updated to Android 14?

If your device manufacturer no longer provides updates to Android 14 or above, you may continue using Setel where supported. However, certain limitations may apply as part of our ongoing security and technology risk management efforts.

For the best experience and continued access to all Setel features, we recommend using a device that supports Android 14 or above.

Do I need to update the Setel app too?

Yes. After updating your Android OS, please make sure you're also using the latest version of the Setel app available on Google Play Store.

Keeping your Setel app updated helps ensure that you have access to the latest features, improvements and security updates supported by your device.

Why do I need to update both my Android OS and the Setel app?

Updating your Android OS helps keep your device compatible with the latest Setel updates, features and security improvements.

After updating your Android OS, please also make sure that you're using the latest version of the Setel app available on Google Play Store.
